Second grade students may choose at least two books from the reading list to read over the summer. Be sure to read carefully and with understanding. Learn how to pronounce each word in the book. You have the entire summer to do this. We will write book reports the first week of school. This will be done in class. Parents, you don’t need to do anything except help your choose and read two books from list.  The book reports will be graded. Each student will also be responsible for giving a book talk on the second book. This will also be graded. Guidelines will be given after we return in August. At least one week will be will allowed for students to practice at home. I will give the due date in August. Enjoy your reading, and have a great summer!

The book assigned is entitled FRINDLE byAndrew Clements. This book is available through the Memphis Public Library.This book is a mandatory reading for the summer.

Each student is required to do and/or have the following:

I.  A copy of the book in his/her possession the first two weeks of school.

II. Each student is required to do a traditional book report (title, author,
setting, main character(s), brief summary 3 paragraphs and a critique.

III. The report must be handwritten. (Messy papers will NOT be excepted)

IV. All reports are due in by Monday, August 15, 2008.

*** An extra five (5) points will be given to those students that bring their
paper in on August 11, 2008 (the first day of classes).

All requirements must be met.

DO NOT WAIT TO LAST MINUTE TO THIS ASSIGNMENT. PLEASE USE YOUR TIME
WISELY.

Head Start On Extra Credit:
 

The Memphis Public Library has a summer reading club. You may sign up at your neighborhood library. Upon signing up for the program you will be given a book log. I will give 2pts for each entry that is recorded on your book log. The Liberian must sign each entry and the location of the library must also accompany each entry.

I will give 5pts for each summary of the book(s) on your log. A brief summary is (2-3)paragraphs. All books must be aged appropriate. Students MUST have their own library card and be able to bring to class daily. This school year we will have an extra credit bank and you will have opportunities to make deposits. You will also be allowed to make withdrawal whenever you request. Extra Credit points can be applied to test grades, papers, homework grades, and class work grades. A word to the wise take advantage of this opportunity and get a head start on your upcoming school year.


ALL ASSIGNMENTS MUST HAVE A TITLE PAGE WITH STUDENT’S NAME, GRADE, AND DATE.

The book assigned is entitled Bridge of Terabithia by Katherine Paterson. This book is available through the Memphis Public Library.

This book is a mandatory reading for the summer. Each student is required to do and/or have the following:

Fifth Grade Summer Reading

Book: From the Mixed-up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler by E. L. Konigsburg

 FYI: Each student is required to completely read and bring a copy of the book to class by  Tuesday, August 12, 2008. An in class reading book report will be done the first week of  class. The book may be purchased or checked-out at the following places (call stores to  hold books for your arrival). 

Sixth Grade Summer Reading


In preparation for the 2008-2009 school year, you are being asked to read Harper

Lee’s To Kill A Mockingbird and complete related assignments.  This is required of all students entering the sixth grade at The Lord’s Tabernacle Christian Academy.

The book must be read by the first day of school, Monday, August 11, 2008.
